  • About 90 Bond County Members Without Power Thursday, May 3, 2018
    About 90 members in Bond County are without service following this morning’s thunderstorm. The outage is affecting members from Highway 140 to Baumberger Avenue, between Old Ripley Road and Round Prairie Road. Southwestern crews are currently surveying the area, working to isolate the source of the damage before making repairs.
  • Strong Winds Snap Poles, Bring Down Lines in Fayette County Tuesday, April 3, 2018
    About 630 Fayette County members are without power this evening after strong winds snapped poles and brought down power lines. Crews have been deployed to several locations in the county and are making repairs.
  • Winds Causing Isolated Outages Saturday, March 24, 2018
    About 450 Fayette County members are without power this morning. Crews have been dispatched and are currently making repairs. Strong winds are moving branches into power lines, resulting in momentary blinks, damage to fuses, and isolated outages throughout Fayette, Effingham and Shelby counties. Members are advised to be alert for fallen branches and to avoid downed and low-hanging power lines.
  • Fuse Interrupts Power to 225 Members Monday, March 19, 2018
    About 225 members south of Vandalia lost power this morning due to a fuse operation at Southwestern Electric Cooperative’s Shobonier Substation. Crews are currently on site investigating the source of the damage and making repairs.

    A damaged lightning arrestor has interrupted power to about 650 Madison County members this morning. Southwestern Electric crews are on site making repairs.
  • Payment Processing Systems Unavailable During January 14 Maintenance Friday, January 12, 2018
    Southwestern Electric Cooperative’s payment processing systems will be unavailable Sunday, January 14, from midnight to 4 a.m., while we perform system maintenance. No payments will be processed during this time. We will resume processing payments Sunday at 4:01 a.m.

    At about 3:15 p.m., an Ameren transmission line failure interrupted power to Southwestern Electric Cooperative’s St. Jacob, Edwardsville and Fruit Substations. The outage affected 3,000 members in Madison and St. Clair Counties.

    At about 3:15 p.m., an Ameren transmission line failure interrupted power to three Southwestern Electric substations, affecting 3,000 members in Madison and St. Clair Counties.
  • Pole Fire Interrupts Service to 385 Members Saturday, December 23, 2017
    About 385 Madison County members were without power this evening after a utility pole fire was discovered along Illinois Route 143 about 2 miles east of Interstate 55. The fire was caused by a wire jumper failure. The pole is a tie point between Edwardsville Substation north feed and Fruit Substation south feed. As a result, Southwestern line crews had to shut down Edwardsville Substation north feed at 5:30 p.m. and Fruit Substation south feed at 5:45 p.m. to enable the fire to be extinguished safely and replace the pole. Southwestern crews restored power at 7:35 p.m.
  • New CEO Introduced, Favorable Power Contract Announced At Southwestern Electric Annual Meeting Tuesday, September 12, 2017
    Southwestern Electric members met the co-op’s new CEO and learned of a favorable wholesale power contract at the cooperative’s 79th Annual Meeting of Members, held Saturday, Sept. 9, at Greenville Junior High School in Greenville, Ill. More than 2,000 people from Southwestern Illinois attended the meeting, which included breakfast, health screenings, activities for kids, and the co-op’s business meeting and election of directors.
