Sunday, February 24, 2019

5:30 a.m.

Southwestern Electric crews are responding to widespread outages this morning as strong winds drop trees and limbs into power lines. As of 5:30 a.m., crews had restored power to more than 500 members. About 230 members remained without service.

Linemen began responding to outages shortly after 1 a.m. as high winds moved into the region. At 4 a.m., about 760 members were without power. By 5 a.m., crews had restored power to 430 members.

A National Weather Service wind advisory remains in effect for our area until 6 p.m. Forecasts call for winds of 20 to 30 mph today with gusts reaching 50 mph, making scattered outages likely through early evening.

Members are cautioned to avoid all downed and low-hanging power lines. The lines may be energized, or become energized without warning.
