Thursday, May 23, 2019

9 a.m.

Southwestern Electric crews have restored service to more than 900 members this morning after a line of strong thunderstorms pushed through the co-op’s service area shortly before 4 a.m., bringing lightning and high winds to bear on hardware, poles and powerlines.

Widespread lightning damaged arrestors and transformers, while winds brought down trees in some locations, requiring significant repairs to damaged lines.

At 5 a.m., 975 members were without power.

By 5:15 a.m., crews had restored power to 680 members in Bond and Montgomery counties.

At 6 a.m., crews were making repairs in Madison and Fayette counties, where a total of 230 members remained without service.

At 7:15 a.m., about 70 Madison County members were without power, and isolated outages remained in Bond and Fayette counties.

As of 9 a.m., about 40 members system-wide were without power.

Line crews will continue to address outages and make repairs throughout the morning.

Members are cautioned to avoid all downed and low-hanging lines, as they may be energized or become energized at any time.
