Members on Staunton Road South of I-70 Will Be Without Service For Several Hours Tonight

Southwestern members who reside on Staunton Road south of I-70 will be without power for several hours this evening as crews repair damage from strong winds that damaged infrastructure and dropped powerlines across the interstate. As of 5:45 p.m., linemen were waiting for law enforcement officials to shut down I-70, clearing the way for repairs to begin.

Thunderstorms that pushed through Madison County this afternoon brought down multiple spans of line on Staunton Road, and caused damage throughout the cooperative’s service area. As of 6 p.m., about 700 members were without power. In Madison County, about 400 members were without service, while 225 members in Fayette County and 55 members in Bond County were without power.

Crews are repairing damage at locations throughout Southwestern’s service area.

Members are cautioned to avoid all downed and low-hanging lines, as they may be energized or become energized at any time.
