About 500 Southwestern Electric members remain without power this afternoon. A line of thunderstorms that swept through Southwestern Illinois shortly after 2 p.m. busted poles and brought down power lines across the cooperative’s service area.

Powerful thunderstorms swept across Southwestern Illinois this afternoon, breaking poles and bringing down power lines across Southwestern Electric Cooperative’s service area. “As of 3:40 p.m., we have about 625 members without power,” said Joe Richardson, director of communications for Southwestern Electric Cooperative.

Worden Area Members Without Power Saturday Morning

About 430 Southwestern Electric members in Madison and Macoupin counties were without power for three hours this morning. The outages were a result of damage to lightening arrestors at the cooperative’s Worden Substation. The outage lasted from 5:18 a.m. until about 8:15 a.m.

More than 2,700 Southwestern Electric members lost power Friday night when high winds broke about 15 Ameren sub-transmission poles, downing power lines along Highway 40, west of St. Jacob.
