    As of 7 p.m., about 5,000 members of Southwestern Electric Cooperative are without electricity.

    This afternoon’s storm caused extensive damage to utility lines, resulting in outages throughout Southwestern Electric’s service area. We have called in additional crews to assist with restoration efforts. The storm has also affected phone service. We are working to restore power and resolve our phone issues.     This afternoon’s storm interrupted power to members throughout Southwestern Electric Cooperative’s service area. At 4:15 p.m., about 240 members were without power. Most of the outages were located in Madison County.

    About 600 Southwestern Electric members lost power this morning as storms passed through the cooperative’s service area.
  • Construction Causes Vandalia Power Outage Tuesday, February 18, 2014
    About 160 Southwestern Electric members in Vandalia were without power this afternoon after a construction crew dug into an underground power line. The accident occurred near Highway 40 about 3:20 p.m. Southwestern crews isolated the issue and rerouted power, restoring electricity to members at 4:15 p.m.
  • Southwestern Electric Extends Scholarship Application Deadline to February 14 Friday, February 7, 2014
    Due to inclement weather and the number of snow days experienced by students in Southwestern Electric’s service area, the cooperative is extending its scholarship deadline by one week. Scholarship applications will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14. Questions regarding scholarship applications may be directed to Susan File at (800) 637-8667.     Single-digit temperatures and changes in household energy usage patterns are translating into higher than average energy bills for Southwestern Electric members.
  • Madison County Members Affected by Ameren Issue Thursday, January 30, 2014
    More than 2,100 Southwestern Electric members in Madison County were affected by a momentary outage this afternoon. The outage was caused by an Ameren transmission line that feeds the co-op’s Edwardsville, St. Jacob, Troy and Fruit Road substations.

    About 225 Southwestern Electric members lost power Tuesday morning when high winds brought down a tree south of Mulberry Grove.
