What is the Co-op Connections card? It’s a way to use your cooperative membership to save money on dine-out meals, a night’s stay at a hotel, or maybe even your prescriptions, among other items. It works like this: You’ll receive your Co-op Connections cards in the mail. By presenting your card at participating businesses, you’ll be entitled to a discount or other value-added offering.
There’s no cost to you for the card and no sign-on fee for businesses that wish to participate. And here’s another nice feature of the program: It isn’t strictly local. Southwestern Electric is implementing the program in conjunction with other Touchstone Energy co-ops across the country. That means you’ll have the opportunity to use your card nationwide, and friends and family members from other participating co-ops will be able to use their cards here when they visit. The program is made possible by Southwestern’s participation in Touchstone Energy, a national organization dedicated to promoting excellence among electric cooperatives. World Expositions, the company helping us recruit businesses for the program, is working hard to sign up a variety of businesses throughout Southwestern’s service area so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to use your card. It’ll be easy to identify businesses participating in the program. We’ll list them periodically in our magazine and post updates on our website. You’ll also see Co-op Connections stickers in the windows of participating businesses. We’ve listed local participating businesses (as of October 12) on pages 8-9. You can find a full list of participants online at www.co-opconnections.com. Pharmacy Discounts The Co-op Connections program also benefits Southwestern members by offering 10 percent to 60 percent savings on most prescriptions at over 48,000 independent pharmacies and national chains, including CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart and Target, among others. Once you’ve signed the back of your card, it may be used at participating pharmacies locally and nationwide. To find out which pharmacies are participating and to look up the discount prescription price, visit www.rxpricequotes.com. Just present your Co-op Connections card at a participating pharmacy with your prescription and you may be entitled to a discount at the time of purchase. Whenever a Co-op Connections card holder shows their card, they will receive a 10 percent to 60 percent discount on most prescriptions. “We’re advising our members to ask about the discount when they present their card,” said Joe Richardson, director of communications for Southwestern Electric. “This program is new to our area, so your pharmacist may not be familiar with it. Keep in mind, this is a discount, and it doesn’t work with your insurance,” Richardson said. “The Co-op Connections card is a valuable tool that creates an even greater sense of membership and reinforces Southwestern’s longstanding commitment to community,” said Sandy Nevinger, Southwestern’s director of member services and public relations. “It will add value and increase customer loyalty at participating businesses. Simply put, the Co-op Connections program is another way our members benefit from being a part of their electric cooperative.” Together, Touchstone Energy cooperatives serve more than 17 million member-owners nationwide. That’s a lot of buying power. And a lot of savings. If you’re a business owner and would like to participate in the program, please contact Carol Richling at (502) 493-3976 or wxpo@juno.com or CLICK HERE for the participant agreement.
